Some of My Favorite Pictures

1st Day of Preschool

Colton has started Preschool this year. He is going to Bee Smart Preschool, his teacher is Evelyn Leibes. He absolutely loved his first day, which was Wednesday, September the 7th. They had to wear black or yellow, they had a pancake breakfast party. Played Bee games, made a beehive and a bee. He had a blast and is so excited for school!

Temple Square

On Saturday we went down to see Grandma and Papa Funk, we had a lot of fun spending time with them. As usual I forgot to take pictures while we were there. We have always promised Colton that someday we would stop and let him go see the Salt Lake Temple. He always calls that Temple "His" Temple. He loves the SLC Temple. So, it was around 3:00 pm and we had nothing too pressing at home, so we decided to stop and walk around Temple Square. I'm so glad we did, what a joy it was to see Colton's face as he looked at the Temple and touched it and got to sit on a part of it. We went through the visitor's center and the look on his face as he saw the Christist was priceless. He turned to Matt and I and said, "It's Jesus, It's Jesus!" We had to remind him to be reverent, as there was a Spanish session going on up there. But, I was so proud of the excitement he felt and showed. When I asked him how he felt he was just excited and couldn't believe that there was a statue of Jesus. Colton didn't want to leave, so we told him we would walk over to the Conference Center where they would be holding General Conference and where the Prophet usually speaks to us. He was excited and the tears stopped. But, he thought it was cool that they have stairs going up the side of the Conference Center, and "fortunately" for us, all but the very top one was open. Yep, we had to climb all of them. We got some good pictures up there though. Well, it was time to go and he didn't want to go. I felt so torn telling Colton that we had to leave the Temple and go home. I pray that he always has that love for the Temple and love for Jesus. I'm so grateful for the gospel and the saving ordinances the Temple offers up. I'm glad that I have been sealed to a worthy companion, who will be my eternal companion. I'm grateful for the knowledge that Families are Forever. I've been so blessed to have such a great family, immediate and extended. I'm grateful for the knowledge that my children can be with us always.

Meaning of Name

I was googeling one day, to see what Devin meant, and one of the meaning was believed it could arrive from the Latin Devine, meaning perfect or divine. I thought that was very appropriate. Love that name. We love and miss you Devin!

Love you too Vella Heaps Durrant Becky! We are so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel because we lost our first two babies. You have always been such a special young woman, and I know that the Lord will bless your family. Teresa Durrant Taylor- That is a great scripture, and very comforting. There were (and still are) many days that I felt like the Savior was the only one who could help me-- eventually--and I just needed to learn to wait until it was my turn to be helped. In the meantime... there were and are rough days and rough times. When was your due date? Did you name your baby? I want to come visit you sometime soon (today, hopefully, if you will be home). Landon just had surgery 2 days ago (tonsils out, tubes in ears) so I am on close watch-- but I will be over to see you soon! love you! Teresa.. Rebecca Parker Funk My due date, was January 12th, so we were 9 weeks along. But, we had tried for so long. We are pretty sure, it was a boy and his name is Devin Matthew, I will be home all day, I would love to have you come visit. What can we do for Landon? Poor guy! Thanks again, love ya! Becky.. Tabitha Francis Garner- Hope things are going okay with you. So sorry to hear about your baby- we've been praying for you. I've never been pregnant to my knowledge, but I still understand how it feels to lose a child, or, in my case, to lose the chance to have children of my own. Everything always seems to work out, though, and it's a good thing your faith is so strong. I just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you. ♥..

Devin Matthew Funk

Tuesday night June 7, I had a hard time sleeping and just kept getting the impression, that our baby was a little boy, we had picked out the name Devin Matthew for a boy, and I felt that, this was who it was, but at the same time, I knew that he wasn't going to be with us very long. I was hoping I was wrong, that I was just paranoid. But at the same time I felt at peace, and knew that if that was to happen everything would be okay. I longed and ached for our little boy, I told him how much I loved him. And how proud I was of him. I knew he must be really special to be able to have the opportunity to return with Heavenly Father. Well I went to bed, trying to sleep. Hoping that what I felt would not be. Devin Matthew Funk was born Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He immediately returned to our Heavenly Father. I was heart broken. I knew something was wrong. I woke up around6:00 am and started bleeding heavily. I saw what I thought was a placenta, and immediately looked through it, because I didn't want my baby to go down the toilet. I didn't find anything, so I thought maybe the baby is okay. I woke Matt up, and called the Dr. I actually called the ER and they paged the Dr on call. Dr Norda called me back and said not to worry, he could see me at 8:15 am, or I could just go to the ER, I explained a little more what was going on, but because I wasn't cramping or light headed or any of the normal symptoms of a miscarriage besides the bleeding, he thought I would be okay. But, he recommended I go to the ER just to be safe, especially where we lived in Richmond. So, Matt called mom to come over and sit with Colton. When Colton asked what was wrong, I told him,"I don't think mommy has our baby in her tummy anymore." Colton, started crying,"No, mommy, I want my baby, mommy." It just broke my heart even more. Mom came and we left. I kept praying all the way in, please don't let this happen, but if it did, please let us be okay, and let Matt be okay. On our way to the hospital the Hospital Operator called me back, wanting to make sure the Dr called and how sorry she was, and hoped everything would turn out okay. We arrived at the ER what seemed like forever between Richmond and Logan. They checked us in at the desk, then we waited and waited. I just couldn't believe this was happening, I had just seen the baby last week and heard the heart beat, and everything seemed fine. Finally the nurse came and got me, it was Lorraine, Natalie's mom, and she isn't the best at bedside manners. She tried to take my vitals, and my first blood pressure reading was 177 over 101, she said, wow, that is high, are you a little stressed? Well, DUH! The second one wasn't much better 167 over 100, finally the Dr came in . Dr Whitaker, and talked to me and asked what had happened, then explained what we were going to do. He wanted blood work done, then he would check my uterus and see if there was any tissue. Then we would do an ultrasound. Well, I wanted the Ultra sound first, didn't these people know that I just wanted to see my baby in me, like I did last week. Well, Matt was so good and just kept talking to me and trying to keep me calm. A second nurse came in and started my IV and she was so gentle and sweet and caring, she gave me a hug as I was crying. Dr. Whitaker was amazing, so gentle and caring. When he did the uterus check, he said everything looked fine and didn't see any extra tissue and the uterus was closed, which was a good sign. So, the next step was the ultra sound. An ultrasound STUDENT came and got me, oh, my she told me, she was a student and didn't know much, but that she would try, until the Tech could come in. Well, she tried through the belly button, and I had told her the Dr wanted a inside one, and she said, well, I'm just going to try it this way. She asked if my bladder was full, I said, no, they just did a catheter to take a urine sample. Well, after she tried, she went to talk to the tech. I didn't see anything there, I knew, what I had felt and ultimately knew was true. I just started bawling, Matt kept saying how sorry he was. The student came back in and said we are going to try to do one inside, she got the wand ready and said here, "You put it in, and then I will look around with it" By this point, I was just screaming to myself, get the TECH in here. She looked around and couldn't find anything, I said does that mean my baby is gone, she said, I don't know, I'm not the best to answer that question. She went back out, and finally the Tech came in. She apologized for not being there to start with, I said it was okay. They were super busy that day. She looked around and asked if I had, had an ultrasound already, I answered yes, last week, that I had seen the baby and heard the heart beat. She said, I'm so sorry, so sorry. I said it would be okay, I held it together pretty well, and she said that this was the hardest part of her job. I felt horrible for the student and her. I can't imagine having to deliver that news to someone. She took pictures of my ovaries, found a large cyst on my left ovary. But, said that had nothing to do with it. She said, the uterus was clean, very clean, which if there was to be something positive, that would be it. I was grateful, because I knew with it being clean, they wouldn't have to do a DNC. The Tech apologized again and let me go to the bathroom to completely empty my bladder before I went back into the room. I got in the bathroom by myself and I lost it. I was so heart broken. I knew that he was in Heaven, but it didn't help the heart and hollowness I was feeling. The student took me back to the room, she apologized, and I told her how sorry I was that she had to be the one to do it. I felt so bad for her. I thanked her for her help. While we were waiting, and waiting, Matt all the sudden said, "Devin is here" I said he is? He said, "yes". I will now insert what Matt has written about his experience. June 8th 2011 Today we lost our little beloved boy Devin Matthew funk, Becky was 9 weeks along and went into the doctor at the Emergency Room. Becky had a miscarriage with the baby, I knew everything was ok; I had the opportunity to strengthen my testimony of the gospel. As I was sitting there waiting for the doctor to come back Devin visited me and encircled me with a heavenly hug, or bear hug as it felt to me. It felt like heavens doors opened up, and I felt his love and precious spirit very strongly. Devin and heavenly father had told me that everything is going to be ok, and this was the way it was suppose happen. He is now home in heaven, I believe he is my little helper along with the holy ghost to guide me through this life I am closer to our heavenly father and my testimony has grown even stronger knowing that we can be together forever. The Dr finally came in, he sat down and said, did they tell you. I said yes, I could see there was nothing there. He apologized and told us there was nothing I did or could have done to prevent this from happening. Sometimes the baby just doesn't completely develop right and the body knows it and will get rid of it. I knew this was probably the case. Matt had assured me that Devin didn't want me to blame myself, I didn't do anything to cause it. Dr Whitaker said, he was going to call Dr Blackett, my OBGYN, and talk with her and see if there was anything else she wanted done. What a great Dr! I felt so much love and compassion from him, Matt and I apologized to him for having to start or end his day like this, that he had to deal with this today. While he was gone, there was a bathroom right next to my room, someone came in and peeded forever and was making all kinds of noises, Matt and I just started laughing. It was so funny! Then I heard a baby crying, which again brought tears to my eyes. We were finally released around 11:00 am, we were sent home with 4 prescriptions. 1 antibiotic to prevent infection, 1 pill that was suppose to make me cramp, and a Motrin and Loratab for pain. So, as we walked out, Debbie Grindy, my RS president was in the waiting room. She had come to see me and gave me a huge hug. Mom had made phone calls for me, so I wouldn't have to tell very many people. Mom has been a great blessing. What a relief to have Debbie there. She has had 3 miscarriages. I felt so loved and cared for.

Let's Play Catch Up!

So a lot has happened since I last wrote. Colton unfortunately still refuses to consistently go on the potty. He's being really stubborn about this! He must get that from his Dad, jk. We sold our cute little Reece. We think Colton was allergic to her. Plus, she was just a pain for me, cute and all, but a real pain. I never want a puppy again!! So, we have had a lot of ups and downs with Matt getting laid off at jobs and then hired at new places just to turn around and be laid off again. It has been really frustrating for all of us, not just Matt. Matt is doing well though, through all of this. He continues to stay up beat most of the time and is really trying to find a job that will support our family and have benefits. So, that quest continues, but we know that the Lord will not fail us in our time of need, nor let us down. We truly have been blessed during all this time. We had some friends in our ward give us a bunch of top soil for our yard, which was wonderful, something that we were going to have to eventually buy. Then our ward had a Service Day, where we had a lot of people show up to help spread all the top soil. Matt got me some flowers for Mother's Day, that we planted in the front of our house. They look so pretty, to have something live, in our yard. Then on Thursday, May 12th. I went to the Dr, because I was not feeling well and was nauseated all the time and tired, and plain just didn't feel well. I knew we were not pregnant, because TWO home pregnancies test were negative. I also wanted to talk to him about our having a hard time of getting pregnant, I mean we were going on 3 years now. Well, I found a new Dr., Dr. Matthew Welter, who I absolutely love. He has done wonders for our family and has answered so many questions. Well, they decided to do a pregnancy test, and they first thing he did when he came in was say, I think I have the answer to all your questions and why you feel this way, showed me the test and yes it was positive. We were pregnant. Mom was with me because we both had an appointment at the same time and they just said we could go in together. So, Mom was the first one to know. The Dr was thrilled for me, I just started crying. That would explain how I was feeling. Dr. Welter referred me to the Women's Lodge, so, I later called an made an appointment with them. I've had my nurse console, my due date is January 12,2012 which seems so very far away. I'm really nervous about this pregnancy, being older and waiting so long to get pregnant. I have had some spotting, which they say is normal during the earl stages of pregnancy. I will feel better about it after my apt on June 14th. When I meet with Dr. Blackett and she does an initial ultrasound. Until then, I just keep taking breaks and putting my feet up when I spot. We are looking forward to this next month. We are having all our family visit. And Keagan, Mike's second oldest is getting baptized. I got a really special phone call the other night from Keagan. He called and asked if I would give a talk at his baptism about baptism, I felt honored. He is such a special boy. I can't believe how fast he is growing up. I love him so much! Colton is very excited to see all of his cousins! Both Mike and Chris and their families are coming up and Uncle Lindsay is coming. What an exciting Month! Mom is doing well with her knee replacement, although she gets frustrated at times, she really is doing well. Just takes a lot more time to heal than she wants and she wants to get so much done, that it is frustrating that she can't. And know I'm not much help in that department, since I can't lift anything and the Dr said no deep cleaning for me. But, it sure has been fun spending so much time with mom taking her back and forth to the Dr's and therapy. Colton has been able to spend a lot of time also. Which is such a blessing! Dad got himself a Mustang, it's a 2008 and it's black. It's beautiful and so much fun to drive. It's funny seeing my dad act like a teenager when he gets behind that wheel. Dad Funk during all this time has suffered from a lot of mini strokes and is now in a facility care, were he is getting the therapy he needs, so he can get himself up again on his own and walk on his own. We truly love Dad Funk, and pray that he will be okay and be at peace with what is going on with his body. We were planning on doing a sprinkler system, but can't afford one right now. Terry Holden has been so wonderful to us, he has leveled, moved dirt and offered to help with the sprinkler system. Melvin, Matt's brother, said he can put it in also, we just need to pay for the parts and we would have to pay him by the hour. Well, Mel came up and drew out our yard and is getting us an estimate of what we need. In the mean time. We found out how much it would cost to rent a ditch witch, to dig the trenches. And then the other day, while I was Visiting Teaching, one of my Sisters. Sister Wallace, said, hey we have all this pipe and sprinkler parts, we had got to put in our backyard sprinkler system, but know that we are selling, and having to do a short sale, we don't want to leave that with the house. Would you be interested in it? I said, yes, we just can't afford to pay for it, she said what if we traded haircuts or something like that? I was excited. Know we just have to see if what they have will work in our yard. Another truly great blessing. Then yesterday, we got a phone call from a Sister LaMunyon in our ward, saying she was thinning out her raspberries, did we want some starts. I said sure, I just don't know how to do them. She said, I'll be over and help you plant them and tell you all about them. So, Matt and her planted a whole row of raspberries. What another blessing and a reminder of how the Lord knows you and watches after you. I will post pictures after church. I wanted to get this part done. We have been truly blessed by a loving Heavenly Father he knows us individually and loves us so much. Even during times of trial and heartache, he continues to pour his love and spirit upon us. We are so blessed to have the knowledge that we all have a purpose and that our life is a plan.

WHY?

Why oh Why will this cute boy not consistently go potty on the potty? His answer, "I don't want to, I'm sorry, I tried Mommy"

Monday, February 21, 2011

Hello Reece' Pieces

As you can tell in the second picture she has gotten quite a bit bigger. The top picture is when Grandad set up a tent for Colton to sleep in at Grandad and Grammy's house. Naw, he didn't really sleep there, he wanted to come home at the last min.

Goodbye!

We said Goodbye to Tinkerbell, our dog for a couple of weeks, she ended up not liking Matt and turned on him. So, we said farewell, we weren't really sad. I hadn't developed a bond with her. I didn't really like her, but Matt and Colton did. So, that is why we got her. So, we also got rid of our fish to a good home that really wanted them. I was just tired of them taking up so much room. So goodbye Tigger! It was kinda hard to see Tigger leave, I had him ever since he was a baby goldfish. But, he will be enjoyed by a new family.
